GET THE LOOKS
I originally wanted to have our one-year anniversary shoot right around our wedding date (August 21, 2015), but by the time that I got around to asking photographers what their availability was, they were in the thick of wedding season and couldn’t work with us! I was bummed, but it actually worked out much better for us to take our pictures a couple months after our anniversary because we were able to get a little festive and use one of the pictures for our holiday card.
When we finally landed on a date for our anniversary shoot, it ended up being pretty close to Christmas so I did some brainstorming on a location and came up with a Christmas Tree Farm as our backdrop. Jonathan and I have grown up with fake trees all of our lives (GASP!) and had never been to tree farm before so we thought it would be a fun experience. We ended up taking our pictures in Rhode Island at Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm and it was such a cool experience. First of all, they are dog friendly, which is perfect because picking a tree is a family experience (even though we didn’t actually pick one) so I thought it was awesome that they let you bring your furry family along with you. Second of all, the place is GINORMOUS and is sprawling with trees. You have to take a tractor to get to the area to pick out your trees, which adds to the total experience. After you have picked your tree, Henry’s offers warm apple cider which really is the perfect ending. The whole experience just got us so ready for the holidays and also made us seriously consider getting a real tree next year. Our photographers, Evan & Samara, from Frame + Anchor, were so awesome. It literally felt like we were just hanging out with a couple friends who just happened to be taking our pictures. It is so important to find photographers that you feel comfortable with because it just makes the experience so much better and your final products will be amazing.
I’m not going to lie, getting Jonathan on board with the anniversary shoot was a challenge because he didn’t think we needed pictures a year after our wedding, but looking back, he is so happy with the finished product and we finally have a family picture together (#happywifehappylife). Jonathan’s wedding gift to me was that cute chunka-monk English Bulldog, Bubba, you see in the pictures above. I never thought I would be a crazy obsessed dog mom, but as soon as we picked him up, I knew I was doomed (I mean look at that face!). HE WAS SO PRECIOUS and only weighed eleven pounds when we got him. He is now a sexy fifty-six pounds but is still a ball of love and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. I of course have an iPhone filled with pictures of him, but we didn’t have one good family picture of the three of us so this photo shoot was necessary.
All-in-all, the anniversary shoot was a success and I think that these pictures will be so fun to look back at in a few years. I highly recommend it to anyone considering it!
